Learning Outcomes

Learning outcomes.

1. Firstly, I will examine and analyse the principles behind character design to obtain a deeper understanding of “what” makes a character appealing. From my analysis of the principles I will obtain an understanding for “how” a good character design can be achieved and “why” it is important to make certain choices on a character’s design. Through this research, I will gain a critical understanding of the fundamental principles of character design, which will be applied to this project.

2. Secondly, I will critically review the fundamental principles of human/animal anatomy and gesture to the level of a professional character designer (like Aaron Blaise, for example). From the review I will obtain a basic knowledge of functionality and form right down to the skeletal structure so that the character is more believable and grounded in reality.

3. Thirdly, I will explore the capabilities of zbrush in depth to enable the production of character models to a higher level of quality and at a faster rate. I will experiment with zbrush/Photoshop hybrids to identify techniques for application; creating at least one Photoshop/Zbrush hybrid to a high standard (applying the character design principles as a judging criteria for success/failure) to validate this learning outcome as a success or failure.

4. Finally, I will examine and explore the methods of creating a final product based on the knowledge gathered from the previous objectives to create an encyclopaedia/journal of fantasy creatures, to produce a product for the comic convention in November.
